Methodology
How hours are calculated
Data source: GitHub API — commit timestamps from all 15 public repositories under github.com/cochranblock. No self-reported time. Machine-verified.
Session detection: Consecutive commits within a 2-hour window are grouped into a single work session. Each session counts as minimum 1 hour (accounts for thinking, testing, and review time between commits).
Complexity multiplier: Applied per-repo based on technical depth — augment engines and AI/ML systems rate higher than static documentation.
| kova (augment engine + LLM) | 2.0x |
| pixel-forge (AI diffusion models) | 1.8x |
| ghost-fabric (LoRa mesh + edge AI) | 1.8x |
| cochranblock (web + forms + booking) | 1.5x |
| approuter (reverse proxy + tunnel) | 1.5x |
| rogue-repo (payment engine) | 1.5x |
| All others | 1.0x |
Rate: $225/hour — consistent with published rate card.
AI-accelerated, human-directed: All development uses AI tooling (Claude Opus, Kova, Cursor) as force multipliers — the same way a carpenter uses a nail gun instead of a hammer. The human directs every decision, verifies every output, and ships working software. The AI is the tool. The $225/hour rate is for the human. The hours above are human hours at the keyboard producing 3–5x the output of unassisted development. Each repo's TIMELINE_OF_INVENTION.md documents what the AI generated vs. what the human directed.
DCAA relevance: IR&D (Independent Research & Development) costs are allowable under FAR 31.205-18 when properly documented. This page provides the audit trail. AI tooling costs (API subscriptions) are separately trackable as materials under FAR 31.205-26.
